Last night, the board of trustees approved a short-term loan to ensure the district has sufficient funds to meet payroll at the end of November.

What to know: 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD has been working hard to bring down expenses and is currently about $35M under budget so far this fiscal year.

  • This temporary loan creates a safety net in the event that the November election causes a delay in receiving tax revenue.

How it works: Unlike household budgets where many families rely on paychecks issued the same time each month in relatively uniform amounts, 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD鈥檚 cashflow varies each month.

This is because we don鈥檛 typically begin receiving tax revenue for the current year until November, which means from the start of the fiscal year in July through November, we鈥檙e relying on reserves to pay staff and other expenses.

This year, the timing challenge is magnified. With the Prop 13 Homestead Exemption on the November ballot, the process for receiving tax revenue could be delayed. Any new law that passes requires time for county and state officials to process and implement the change, which means we could be receiving tax revenue a little later than usual.

Yes, and鈥If Prop 13 passes, the homestead exemption would grow from $100,000 to $140,000. This means that a smaller portion of property values will be subject to property tax collections, impacting how much revenue the district and other taxing entities would receive.

By the numbers:

  • The loan is for $19M at a 4.67% interest rate
  • We estimate the district will incur approximately $250k in interest and fees

Next Steps: The loan will be paid off in full by January 13, 2026.

  • The district continues to identify strategies to balance the budget including reducing contracts, staffing & operational efficiencies and through the school consolidation and boundary change process.

The bottom line: This situation underscores the importance of maintaining a healthy fund balance. It provides the financial flexibility to manage operations without incurring debt, ensuring that our resources are directly focused on supporting our students, teachers and schools.

El 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD procura un pr茅stamo para protegerse contra posibles retrasos en los ingresos
